Hello World

I am creating this space with two goals in mind: to write, and to learn.

Writing

I want to write more. In particular, I hope to write about things I’m interested in, things I want to share, and things I want to remember. Writing is something I’ve been wanting to work on for a long time, but I struggled to pick topics to write about. I also struggled to figure out how to structure a piece. My writing often felt like rambling, and I didn’t feel comfortable sharing it. But I’m going to say here that rambling is okay, and I’m going to challenge myself to share what I write.

Learning

I want to learn stuff! Most relevant to this space is web-related learning. In getting this site setup and writing this first post, I’ve already been exposed to a number of technologies I’ve never even heard of before! For example, this site is built using Hugo framework and is deployed using Netlify. After getting a basic site and custom domain set up, I wanted to do some customization and discovered Go Templates, which is used by Hugo to generate HTML output. Pretty neat.

However, beyond using this space as a practical way to learn technologies, I’m also going to tie it back to my other goal - I hope to write about things I learn. And those can definitely be more than just technologies!
